Cultural and Linguistic Competency Requirements

In 2006, the State of California passed legislation (Assembly Bill 1195) mandating that CME providers based within California provide content on Cultural and Linguistic Competency (CLC). CME focusing on Cultural and Linguistic Competency (CLC) is one way to ensure that physicians maintain the relevant professional development necessary to reflect the changing demographic profile of California.

In particular, AudioDigest encourages its CME and CE participants to review the following:

Think Cultural Health is an initiative from the Office of Minority Health’s Center for Linguistic and Cultural Competence in Health Care. TCH “offers CME/CE credit and equips health care professionals with awareness, knowledge, and skills to better treat the increasingly diverse U.S. population they serve.” A Physician's Practical Guide to Culturally Competent Care.

Quality Interactions provides “cultural competency solutions to improve health outcomes and increase returns.” CME and CE credit hours can be earned through online learning.

The librarians at Loma Linda University Library have amassed a wealth of cultural competency resources for health care professionals in their web guide entitled Clinician’s Guide to Cultural Competency.
